Founder / Director / Producer / Screenwriter
Ronny A. Sosa is a Dominican filmmaker — screenwriter, director and producer — whose career has been built around creating and producing films rooted in Dominican culture, identity, memory and everyday reality. He founded Fénix Legendario Studios in Santiago de los Caballeros together with Biviana Bautista, Julio Grisanty and Adalberto Jiménez, and from there has driven fiction, documentary and animation projects that have travelled to festivals at home and abroad.
One of his first large-scale projects was La Bruja (2021), a horror feature he wrote and directed. Shot in San José de las Matas, it tells the story of a family facing the consequences of an old pact with a witch.
In animation, he directed Zoilo Volará, a short inspired by Zoilo Hermógenes García Peña, regarded as a pioneer of Dominican civil aviation. The project grew out of historical and aeronautical research and was backed by FONPROCINE, the film fund of the Dominican Film Commission.
His documentary work includes Bōru, which explores the ties between the Dominican Republic and Japan through Japanese migration to the island, the identity of its Nikkei communities, baseball and the Dominicans who have built part of their lives in Japan; and Nuestra Tierra (2025), about the country's environmental challenges and the people working to protect it. He is director, writer and producer of both.
Across his filmography Ronny A. Sosa has moved between genres and formats — from horror and animation to documentary — always driven by the wish to tell Dominican stories and bring them to audiences at home and around the world.
