OUR ISLAND
A single opportunity to keep what is ours.
A documentary about nature, culture and sustainability in the Dominican Republic — and our shared responsibility to protect them.
Our Island travels across the Dominican Republic to discover the richness of its landscapes, ecosystems, biodiversity and cultural expressions, while looking at the environmental challenges that threaten that heritage.
Narrated by Hony Estrella, the documentary makes the island its protagonist, combining images from across the country with the experience of people working in environment, culture and conservation: environmental defender Johann Vásquez, cultural researcher Marianny Martínez and marine biologist Rebecca García.
The film connects nature, identity and environmental responsibility, and shows that protecting the land depends not only on institutions and specialists but on the choices of communities and society as a whole.
“More than a documentary, Our Island is a call for environmental awareness and shared responsibility, where cinema, culture and sustainability come together in a unique experience for the audience.” — Ronny A. Sosa
It premiered at Centro León in Santiago on 4 September 2025.
